So apparently, "smiley faced pipes" is a term plumbers use for pipes that have busted, from freezing during the cold winter months. This is what they look like. Our plumber told us to keep these as souvenirs. Expensive little suckers! Unfortunately, there are more where these came from.

When the water was turned on for the first floor, there was water fountaining out of the dining room light. Of course I was horrified, yet secretly happy that we have to rip out that light fixture soon.

Do I know when we're moving? No idea. In the mean time, we are back and forth, living in a box filled apartment. Thank God it's summer in Chicago!
We removed the kitchen cabinet doors, cleaned and sanded them. They are ready to be primed & painted. Need to shop for new hardware for the cupboards... that's the update.
**FYI... we are using copper pipes, as PVC is banned in Chicago. PVC is less expensive, but is a potential health hazard, fire hazard, safety issue, and not eco-friendly. Check out this article and this article for a summary.
